Colorado Public Radio relaunched Freeform “Open Air” 102.3 KVOQ-FM Greenwood Village/Denver and 90.9 K215FM Fort Collins CO as “Indie 102.3” at 5:00 this morning.
The rebranding completes the gradual shift of the station over the past few months to a new music discovery oriented AAA under recently added Program Director Willobee Carlan. The station is in the most competitive AAA/Alternative market in the country competing against the iHeartMedia combo of “Channel 93.3” KTCL and 97.3 KBCO as well as Community Radio For Northern Colorado’s more traditional Public AAA “105.5 The Colorado Sound” KJAC.
The 6am hour of the new Indie 102.3 today consisted of:
Yoke Lore – Chin Up
Caroline Rose – Soul No. 5
Bob Mould – Sunshine Rock
The Revivalists – Change
Peter Bjorn and John – Young Folks
Oh Pep! – What’s The Deal With David
The Lumineers – Gloria
Holly Miranda – All I Want To Be Is Your Girl
The Cure – In-Between Days
Modest Mouse – Poison The Well
Black Pumas – Black Moon Rising
Wildermiss – Tunnel Vision
Wild Belle – Mockingbird
Chance The Rapper – Work Out
Alabama Shakes – Don’t Wanna Fight
Colorado Public Radio has announced the relaunch of its Triple A outlet, Indie102.3. Previously known as OpenAir, the rebranded service will be an independent music discovery platform with a tightened focus on local artists and a new schedule of programs.
Leading the charge is radio veteran Willobee Carlan, who joined CPR’s staff earlier this year. As Indie102.3’s PD, he has provided leadership and vision to the station’s ongoing development. MD Jessi Whitten and hosts Jeremy Petersen, Alisha Sweeney, Bruce Trujillo and Zach Gilltrap will introduce listeners to new music from emerging artists and from those they know and love. The Indie team has also been working with Mike Henry of Paragon Media Strategies on honing the service.
“Indie102.3 is launching with the support of the extremely talented team already in place,” said Carlan. “Together, we are taking it to the next level. We will use a diversity of mediums–broadcast, digital and community events–to develop a larger more engaged audience for music discovery. Our goal is to elevate Colorado-based music, musicians and experiences.”
In addition to regular spotlights of Colorado musicians throughout the day, Indie102.3 will be introducing listeners to a wide variety of music experiences with its new programming:
Indie Especial – A deep-dive into Colorado’s Latin music scene. Hosted by Bruce Trujillo. Wednesdays at 9 pm.
Indie Gold – A collection of classic indie hits. Hosted by Alisha Sweeney. Fridays at 9 pm.
The Local 303 Show – A special two-hour exploration of Denver’s music scene. Hosted by Bruce Trujillo and Alisha Sweeney. Thursdays at 8 pm.
Bootleg Sessions – A live local concert series. Sundays at 6 pm.
Listeners can also hear new national programming, such as NPR’s All Songs Considered and Passport Approved.
