WCKY-FM Shifts To Gold Based “Buckeye Country 103.7”

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
July 2, 2019

Buckeye Country 103.7 WCKY ToledoiHeartMedia has relaunched “New Country 103.7” WCKY-FM Pemberville/Toledo OH as “Buckeye Country 103.7“.

The move comes with a shift to a playlist that is focused on Country hits of the 80s and 90s with a few recent songs mixed it. The station previously utilized the “Buckeye Country” branding from 1999 through 2007.

WCKY-FM will retain the syndicated Bobby Bones Show and PD/afternoon host Meaghan Mick in afternoons. The station will utilize iHeart’s national Classic Country hosts the remainder of the day including Bob Delmont and Bob Pickett in middays and Tom Travis in nights.

iHeartMedia WCKY-FM/Toledo rebranded today as “Buckeye Country, 103.7 ‘CKY” playing Country Superstars from the past few decades. Market President Shosh Abromovich says, “We’re so excited to once again be playing some of country music’s greatest songs from the 80s & 90s through today. You may even hear some older classic country from time-to-time. These are the songs that take you through a range of emotions; from love to heartbreak to having a beer with your friends on the weekend. You’ll be able to sing along and dance along to every song we play!”

Scott Sands, Senior VP Programming, explains, “Buckeye Country will feature the real icons of country music like George Strait, Alan Jackson, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Garth Brooks, Travis Tritt, Shania Twain, Alabama, Kenny Chesney, Brooks & Dunn, Clint Black, Kenny Rogers, Reba McEntire, Randy Travis and so many more.” Sands adds, “These are the real country superstars, and many of them haven’t been heard on the radio in Northwest Ohio in a long time. That changes now!”

The Bobby Bones Show remains in morning drive on Buckeye Country 103.7 ‘CKY. Bob Delmont and Bob Pickett will split middays. Meaghan Mick continues in afternoon drive. Tom Travis is new to nights. CMT with Cody Allen in overnights. During the day, you’ll continue to hear the latest local weather forecasts, area news and traffic, plus the Ohio Ag Report. Buckeye Country 103.7 ‘CKY is the home of NASCAR Monster Energy Cup Series races every weekend.

Buckeye Country 103.7 ‘CKY is available to stream on the free iHeartRadio app and more than 2000 smart-enabled devices.

“This is actually a return to the station’s roots,” notes Account Executive Todd Wright, who has been with WCKY-FM for thirty years. “The call letters WCKY were actually selected from the word ‘buCKeYe,’ and we were known as ‘Buckeye Country’ until 2007.”

Buckeye Country 103.7 ‘CKY is an iHeartCountry station.

The station’s “roots”? Sorry, but that comment from the AE makes me laugh. The station’s “roots” were in Tiffin as WTTF-FM.

This gives the Toledo market two “80s to today” based country outlets, the other one being “98-3 Nash Icon” WMIM.

These press releases crack me up. Honestly! For once I wish they were honest. “Our PD programs 4 hours out of a day, her airshift, to the delight of local listeners. Otherwise, please listen to this “local” IHR country station filled with corporate syndicated programming the rest of the 20 hours of the day.”

TBH, the original IHR classic country station was actually fairly decent. They messed with it a few years ago, dropped nearly all of the 70s and 80s, and went heavily into the over repeated 90s and 00s. And, yes, it is very similar to the Nash Icon format.
