Alpha Media will launch Rhythmic CHR “We 102.9” KVWE Amarillo TX on Thursday, July 11.
The launch will follow the closing of the $250,000 purchase of Regional Mexican “Mundo-FM 102.9” KEYU-FM from Gray Television. Gray will keep the “Mundo” brand alive in some form online as most of the staffers pull double duty on their “Telemundo Amarillo” KEYU-TV.
The new format will target Cumulus Media Rhythmic CHR “93.1 The Beat” KQIZ and to a lesser extent Townsquare Media CHR “96.9 Kiss-FM” KXSS. KQIZ is currently second in the market with a 9.1 share in the Fall 2018 Nielsen Audio ratings placing it behind just Alpha’s Classic Rock “100.9 The Eagle” KXGL’s market leading 12.0 share.
The company has also announced that Keith Curry has joined the Amarillo cluster as Operations Manager and PD of KVWE. Curry has previously programmed WDKS Evansville and WKFR Kalamazoo and served as APD at WMIB Miami and WDRQ Detroit during his career.
Alpha Media, Amarillo is proud to announce the addition of WE 102.9 to KVWE-FM. Grey Television owned the station previously known as KEYU. The former Spanish Hits station has switched to Rhythmic CHR and debuts July 11th as WE 102.9.
Alpha Media executive vice president of content/programming, Phil Becker, commented on the announcement, “Hip-Hop is the most consumed music in the world and one that our company is passionate about and believes in. The addition of WE 102.9 to our Amarillo cluster gives us the ability to offer our advertisers a new demographic and puts us in a great position to continue to be the market’s most listened to radio operators.”
Alpha Media also announces today that the station will be programmed by the newly hired operations manager, Keith Curry. Curry, who previously worked at WSNX Grand Rapids, WKFR Kalamazoo, WDKS Evansville, WDRQ Detroit, and most recently 105.3 The Beat Miami, shares, “I’m thrilled to be joining Alpha Media and am excited about offering a more compelling hip-hop option to the market. Thank you to Phil Becker and Melissa Kibbler for believing in me. WE are about to do big things.”
