Lou Penrose Takes Afternoons At KOGO As Carl Demaio Runs For Congress

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
August 5, 2019

600 KOGO San DiegoiHeartMedia News/Talk 600 KOGO San Diego has announced that Lou Penrose will join the station as afternoon host as Carl DeMaio prepares to run for Congress.

Penrose served as Director of Programming and hosted mornings at KNWZ Palm Springs from 1994 through 2000 before moving into PR for politicians and then opening his own agency. DeMaio, a former San Diego city councilman, announced this morning his intent to run for the 50th district seat held by fellow Republican Duncan Hunter.

iHeartMedia San Diego announced today Lou Penrose as host of The Penrose Report for News Radio 600 KOGO, San Diego’s News & Information Station. The Penrose Report will air weekdays 3 – 6 p.m. effective August 5, 2019.

The Penrose Report replaces The DeMaio Report which was hosted by Carl DeMaio, who is making a departure from broadcasting to focus on his political career in a bid to represent California’s 50th Congressional District. Similar to The DeMaio Report, The Penrose Report will focus on discussing the latest in local and national political headlines, policies and reform. The show will also feature input and commentary from listeners, fueling political conversation and engagement in the larger San Diego community.

Lou Penrose has more than 25 years of senior political, legislative, public relations, and broadcast radio experience. He runs a full-service government relations and public affairs consulting firm and has served as District Chief of Staff for multiple members of U.S. Congress, including John Campbell, Ed Royce, and Mary Bono. Lou’s extensive broadcast career includes hosting top-rated, radio talk shows. As Director of News and Talk Programming for Morris Media’s KNEWS Radio (KNWZ) in Palm Springs, Lou and his team won three Golden Mic Awards from the Radio & Television News Association of Southern California.

“Lou Penrose is an exciting talent and a perfect addition for the afternoon drive show” said Brian Long, Director of News and Sports Programming, iHeartMedia San Diego/Riverside.
