After closing on its purchase of the stations earlier this year, Shanks Broadcasting has debuted two new formats in Warner-Robins/Perry GA.
610 WCEH/96.1 W241CO Hawkinsville as flipped from a simulcast of the Sports “ESPN Middle Georgia” network to Classic Rock “Highway 96“. Named after the state highway that cuts through Warner-Robins, WCEH focusing on Rock from the late 60s through 1989.
Classic Hits “96Q” 1440 WDXQ/96.7 W244CL Cochran concurrently flipped to Classic Country “96 Country” focusing on music from the 70s through mid 90s.
The two stations are focusing on Houston County, which includes the towns of Warner-Robins and Perry on the southern side of the Macon market. The launches took place in late October.
Shanks also owns “ESPN Middle Georgia“, which airs on a network of 1150 WXKO Fort Valley, 93.1 WWKM Rochelle, 98.3 WCEH-FM Pinehurst, 93.1 W226BZ Macon, and 105.9 W290BD Montezuma. Company head Bill Shanks hosts afternoons on the stations.
Shanks Broadcasting, LLC announces the start of two new radio stations for Houston County and several other counties in the middle Georgia area. The focus for both stations will be Warner Robins and Houston County.
“Highway 96 – Houston County’s Classic Rock” will air on 96.1 FM – W241CO – and on
WCEH AM 610 out of Hawkinsville. The station will have classic rock music from 1970-1989,
and some classic songs from the late-1960s.“96 Country” will air on 96.7 FM – W244CL – and on WDXQ-AM out of Cochran. It will have
a classic country format, with songs from the 1970s through the mid-1990s.Both new stations can be heard in Houston County, Pulaski County, Bleckley County and Peach
County. It will also include news, weather and sports reports on Houston County from WMGT
41 NBC, the middle Georgia NBC affiliate.“We feel the people of Warner Robins and Houston County need radio stations for their
communities,” said Shanks Broadcasting owner Bill Shanks. “All of the stations in the area are either Macon stations or middle Georgia stations, but these will focus on Houston County.”The selection of classic music in the rock and country formats will feature the hits of yesteryear.
“We want to play music that you’ve heard of before, good music from your past,” Shanks said. “You might not remember the name of the song or the artist, but you’ve heard it before. We will play classic music you grew up with.”
Shanks Broadcasting also owns Middle Georgia’s ESPN, which is broadcast on several
frequencies in middle Georgia: W226BZ (93.1 FM) in Macon, W290BD (105.9 FM) in Warner
Montezuma, WCEH-FM (98.3 FM) in Pinehurst, WWKM (93.1 FM) in Rochelle and
WXKO-AM 1150 in Fort Valley.
