Lots of questions and little in the way of answers have come out of Radio One Hip-Hop “97.9 The Box” KBXX Houston for the past week after the Madd Hatta Morning Show announced on New Years Eve that it was their final show.
Since then no official comments have been made with the exception of producer Jim Beazy announcing his departure from the station. Outside of a six month move to Philadelphia in 2002, Beazy had been with the station since its previous KFMK identity in the late 80s. The remaining members of the show have limited their public comments to inspirational messages that can be interpreted in multiple ways.
Madd Hatta had been with KBXX since 1995 and in mornings since 2001. He also serves as Assistant Program Director of sister R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ. The other members of the show included James ‘J Mac’ Garrett, Kiran ‘Kooper’ Jain, and Jasmine ‘Young Jas’ Crockett.
Without any promotion or internal marketing, KBXX debuted its new morning show this morning hosted by former night host Jerrel ‘Hardbody Kiotti’ Brown and midday host Keisha Nicole. Brown began his career competing in freesytle rap battles on KBXX which led to him being signed to a recording contract. He joined the station in 2010 after previously hosting nights at Univision Rhythmic “Party 104.9” KPTY. Keisha Nicole joined KBXX as midday host in 2017 after previously working at KDAY Los Angeles, WGZB Louisville and WHHH Indianapolis.
Former Madd Hatta co-host Young Jas is now listed in the evening slot on the station’s website.
