Cumulus Media has dropped Hot AC on “107.9 The Mix” WNTR Indianapolis and is currently stunting with Christmas Music.
Positioning as “The Soundtrack To Merrier Days”, the station states it wants to provide its listeners with an escape from what’s going on in the world.
Along with the change, it appears WNTR has dropped the syndicated Bert Show from mornings as the program has been removed from the station’s website. The Bert Show moved to WNTR from CHR “Energy 93.9” WYRG when that station flipped to Rock last May.
WNTR ranked thirteenth in the Indianapolis market with a 2.7 share in the February 2020 Nielsen Audio ratings.
Playing Christmas music on Good Friday? Give me a break! I gave up Christmas music for Lent, unless it’s in a YouTube video. Besides, it’s the most Solemn Day in the calendar, Christian, Secular or Otherwise.
Agreed on the “tone-deafness” of this stunt. Though I suspect that the ” radio experts” will soon be scolding us as they attempt to defend the brilliance of this move.
