Riverfront Broadcasting has flipped Hot AC “Star 106.3” KZLK Rapid City SD to 1980s Hits as “Z106.3“.
The station’s on-air lineup of Craig Russell in mornings, Rick Dees’ syndicated “Daily Dees” in middays, and afternoon host Nikki remains in place. The new format creates a flanker to co-owned Classic Hits “Q92.3” KQRQ, which continues to focus on music from the 60s through early 80s.
The new format launched after a brief stunt featuring songs and clips from Sesame Street about the letter Z. It then recreated the script from the 1983 launch of WHTZ New York that also included a montage of 1980s events and clips of Rapid City CHRs from the era including 93.9 KKLS and 100.3 KGGG.
The 80’s have come home to the Black Hills! At 7am MDT June 1st, Riverfront Broadcasting LLC AC KZLK-FM/RAPID CITY flipped to “All 80’s Z 106-3” Under GM Jim Kallas and PD April Goodhart. “In these unprecedented times, we thought we needed a little fun, uplifting music to welcome the area reopening and the start of summer–what’s more fun than 80’s music?” Said Kallas. “Both myself and MD/Morning host Craig Russell grew up and graduated High School in the 80’s, so it was a no-brainer” added 16 year station vet Goodhart. “We are playing it all—from ABC to ZZ Top–it’s “All 80’s, All The Time on Z 106-3”
There are no personnel or lineup changes with the flip. The lineup Mornings “THE MORNING HUSTLE w/CRAIG RUSSELL” 6a-9a, COMPASS MEDIA’s “RICK DEES DAILY DEES” 10a-3p, PD APRIL GOODHART (nee NIKKI) 3p-7p. One casualty is recently departed LISA PAIGE from COMPASS MEDIA “POP CRUSH NIGHTS”. Weekends include parttimer Jennifer Crawford “JEN”, COMPASS MEDIA “RICK DEES WEEKLY TOP 40 80’s COUNTDOWN” and UNITED STATION RADIO NETWORK’S “RETROMIX”.
