Clear Channel Modern Rocker “Planet Radio 107.3” WPLA Jacksonville, FL quietly flipped to Oldies “Magic 107.3” positioned as “The Greatest Hits of All Time” late Wednesday evening displacing the longtime format and syndicated morning hosts Lex & Terry.
WPLA had been Jacksonville’s Modern Rock outlet since 1995, first on 93.3 before moving to 107.3 in December 2005. Cox’s debut of “X102.9” WXXJ in 2009 led to the demise of WPLA as 102.9 became the number one Rock outlet in the market. Magic 107.3 will be targetting another Cox outlet, Classic Hits “96.9 The Eagle” WJGL, which is a more Rock oriented take on Classic Hits, while Magic appears to be Pop based.
