Core Radio Group has filed to purchase 102.1 WXTG-FM Virginia Beach from Local Voice Media.
Core will pay $500,000 for the station as long as the deal closes by November 30. They will pay an additional $25,000 if the closing is between December 1 and January 31, 2021 and another $25,000 if closing is between February 1 and March 31, 2021. WXTG-FM began simulcasting Core’s LMA’d Hip Hop “Streetz 87.7” WMTO-LP Moyock NC on July 15.
Original Report 7/15: With the likely end date for LPTV “Franken-FM” stations now set for July 13, 2021, one operator has moved to shore up their station’s future.
Core Communicators, which has operated Syncom Media Group’s WMTO-LP Moyock NC/Norfolk since December 2017 as Hip Hop “Streetz 87.7“, has begun operating Local Voice Media’s (formerly Davis Media) 102.1 WXTG-FM Virginia Beach as a simulcaster.
WXTG-FM had dropped its former All News format in early June and returned to a temporary simulcast of AAA “92.3 The Tide” WTYD Deltaville following the exit of Local Voice Media President/CEO Tom Davis.
With Core Communicators taking over the operation of WXTG-FM, it brings the station back full-circle. Core CEO Steve Hegwood’s On-Top Communications originally built the station and launched it in 2001 as Hip Hop “Hot 102.1” WWHV. The company sold it out of bankruptcy in 2006 to Red Zebra Broadcasting for $4.25 million, who flipped it to Sports.
