Rubber City Radio Group has made a pair of significant cuts at Country 94.9 WQMX Akron OH.
Ken Steel departs as Program Director and afternoon host just shy of 30 years at the station. Steel joined the station in 1991 when it was AC “Mix 94.9“, remained through its flip to Country in 1993, and was finally promoted to Program Director in 2018.
Jody Wheatley departs as Music Director and Promotions Director after 19 years with WQMX. She has spent her entire career at the station starting as a promotions assistant in 2001 and serving as Music Director since 2010.

The PD produces a great set of ratings and management fires them. Happens quite often over the last few years. This is why more and more talented, experienced radio performers and PDs are quitting the business. When the results of your work mean nothing, it is time to go do something else.
Why would management get rid of those producing results that have been the station and its owner have seen. It doesn’t make any sense. Isn’t WQMX a top biller for Rubber City?
