Arjuna Broadcasting has flipped Oldies “98.3 The Fox” 1420 WNRS Herkimer/98.3 W252DO Utica NY to Spanish Tropical “El Zorro“.
Taking its name from the Spanish derivative of “fox”, WNRS becomes the first Spanish language station in the Utica market. WNRS previously carried programming from Westwood One’s “Good Time Oldies” network.
In explaining the reason for the format change, co-owned Classic Rock “92.7 The Drive” WXUR Program Director ‘Genesee’ Joe Trisolino wrote, “Picture a city block. The city block has five pizzerias on it. Now let’s say for instance, you owned two of the pizzerias. Although all the pizzerias are slightly different. They all serve up some of the same stuff. Now you think you’re two are the best but, five pizzerias with basically the same menu is too many for one block. So you find a segment of the neighborhood that doesn’t have a restaurant that it would like and You change one of your two pizzerias to a different type of restaurant. It’s a basic and a smart business move. Your other pizzeria is still the best of the pizzerias. But now you offer different fare in your other location. And that’s why 98.3 FM, 1420 AM,El Zorro, Radio Latino! is the new sister radio station to 92.7 the drive. It’s literally utterly simple.”
