Loud Media has signed on 94.1 W231DU Albany NY as the FM side of 900 WABY Watervliet/Albany and flipped the station to Classic Country “K94.1“.
WABY/W231DU are simulcasting 94.1 WNYV Whitehall/Glens Falls, which had flipped to Classic Country in July. Pamal Broadcasting had followed the flip of WNYV with their flip of CHR “107.1 The Point” WKBE Corinth to “Big Country 107.1” in August. WKBE rimshots the northern parts of the Albany market, but does not reach Albany itself.
The Albany market features two current based Country outlets in Townsquare Media’s 107.7 WGNA-FM and Pamal’s “100.9 The Cat” WKLI-FM
There’s also Wild country 99.9 in that same market.
The new 94.1 is infringing on the Gloversville 94.1 simulcast of 1440 WFNY. The owner is very upset, and his listeners east of the area say they can no longer pick up Gloversville reliably. WFNY was under the impression W231DU wasn’t supposed to go live until Spring 2021. He plans to take legal action.
A mute point now that the K941 signal has moved. Regardless, K941 was licensed and the FCC saw no problem with this as W231DU was well outside the Gloversville protected contour.
It’s all sour grapes for an outlet that is struggling financially and that is on the verge of going dark.
