For the fourth time in eleven months, Waterloo Media has either changed formats or rebranded 93.3 KGSR Cedar Park/Austin TX. After beginning 2020 as Soft AC “Star 93.3“, the station shifted to Hot AC under the “Star” branding in February 2020, flipped to CHR as “93.3 Austin” in September, and then went back to Hot AC in November. Now the station has settled on a new “Lucy 93.3” identity as it moves forward with the Hot AC format..
The station states that its name is a tribute to Luci Baines Johnson, daughter of former President Lyndon B. Johnson and Lady Bird Johnson, whose family owned the group of stations that would later include KGSR from 1943 until 1997. The station is also tying itself as the female named equivalent of sister Variety Hits “103.5 Bob-FM” KBPA.
The new format launched at 9am today with the Beatles “Lucy In The Sky with Diamonds” before returning to its normal Hot AC playlist.
