Rox Radio Group flipped Classic Hits “Star 101.5” KFMD-FM Greenland/Fayetteville AR to Hot AC “101.5 My-FM” at noon today.
Launching with Lizzo’s “Good As Hell”, Justin Bieber’s “Holy” and Maroon 5 “Girls Like You”, the new station debuted taking indirect shots at Cumulus Media CHR “Power 105.7” KMCK and iHeartMedia’s combo of CHR “Hot 101.9” KMXF and AC “Magic 107.9” KEZA. The station is positioning as “More Music, More Variety” and focusing on pop and rock hits from the late 90s through now.
Today at 12:00 PM local time, Rox Radio Group, LLC, launched changes to recently acquired KFMD-FM, Greenland. The radio station, previously branded as “Star 101.5” and playing a mix of seventies, eighties, and nineties music referred to in commercial radio as “Classic Hits,” will become known as “101.5 MYfm” and play a broad mix of Hot Adult Contemporary music spanning pop and rock hits from the late nineties through current releases.
“More Music, More Variety”
Positioning itself as a “More Music, More Variety” alternative to other current contemporary music radio stations, local ownership provides greater flexibility in music selection without mandated playlists or performance contracts often encountered at current-based music stations operated by large corporations. An Affordable Choice For Local Advertisers
Prior to this format change for KFMD-FM, there were no locally-owned commercial radio stations playing contemporary hit music. Rox Radio Group hopes to provide an affordable option for advertisers hoping to reach consumers of contemporary music for whom corporate radio rates may be out of reach.
Original Report 1/31: Rox Radio Group is beginning to make changes at its recently acquired cluster in Fayetteville AR.
Classic Hits “Star 101.5” KFMD-FM Greenland has dropped its format and is currently stunting with a loop of songs with “change” in the title such as David Bowie “Changes”, Sam Cooke “A Change Is Gonna Come”, Little River Band “Cool Change” and Scorpions “Wind Of Change”. Sweepers between songs state, “Radio in Northwest Arkansas changes forever. Something new, something different and something completely yours tomorrow at noon.”
KFMD-FM held a 1.7 share in the Fall 2020 Nielsen Audio ratings. Rox Radio just closed on its purchase of the former Hog Radio Inc. cluster for $3 million to add to its existing holdings in the market.
