After over 50
years in radio (the last 45 in Sacramento), Joey Mitchell will retire from Results Radio Classic Hits “101.5 K-Hits” KCCL Woodland/Sacramento on Friday, March 26.
Mitchell joined then “K-Hits 92.1” KCCL in 2007 moving with the station to 101.5 in 2013. Mitchell began his career at 94.3 KVFM San Fernando CA in 1971 and then came to Sacramento following a stint at 1440 KPRO Riverside. He started in the market with a two month stint at 93.7 KPOP Roseville, before joining Country 1140 KRAK as evening host in December 1975. Mitchell would be promoted to morning host the following February and stay through the station’s move to 98.5 in 1996. After a two year stint in mornings at Oldies “Cool 101.1” KHYL, Mitchell returned to KRAK in its Classic Country phase through quick frequency shifts from 98.5 to 93.7 to 1470 in the aftermath of the late 90’s consolidation.
Mitchell would spend two years in mornings at an unrelated “Kool 101.9” KHYL from 2001-2003 and then had a brief weekend stint as Christian AC “103.9 The Fish” KFIS-FM before joining KCCL.
