After relaunching 1580/95.9 KNIM earlier this week, Regional Media has flipped newly acquired Classic Rock “97.1 The Vill” KVVL Maryville MO to “97.1 Real Alternative Radio“.
The new brand will feature a broad Alternative library stretching from the 80s through now emphasizing new wave artists The Cars, Talking Heads, R.E.M., The Cure, and U2. KVVL adds

Regional Media is excited to announce the launch of the all new 97.1 Real Alternative Radio. The new format will hit the airwaves on Friday, January 14, featuring the ever popular The Bob & Tom Show kicking off your day from 6:00 AM – 10:00 AM each morning Monday through Saturday.
Our take on the alternative format is unlike any other. Along with what’s happening now, 97.1 KVVL will dig deep into the roots of Alternative with New Wave bands like The Cars or Talking Heads and is home for great 80s bands like R.E.M., The Cure, and U2.
Commenting on the new format, Dave Levora, Rock Formats Director for Regional Media said, “Excited doesn’t begin to describe how I feel about this opportunity to bring Real Alternative Radio to Northwest Missouri and Southwest Iowa.”
Dave will also bring some fun to the station with the Smells Like Lunch show, featuring nothing but the 90’s, which he considers the greatest decade in history for Alternative music. And then stick around for the Five@5. The Five@5 features a different theme every day. One day it could be songs that have the word “Fire” in the song title or songs that mention “beach” in the lyrics. You just never know that the Five@5 will bring, but it sure is a lot of fun!
Benajmin Liptec, Mayor of Maryville, commented about the recent changes, “The City of Maryville welcomes Regional Media to the Maryville community and supports the continued community outreach of the radio station.
