July 25, 2022

Rumba 106.1 The Breeze WISX PhiladelphiaiHeartMedia Spanish CHR “Rumba 106.1” WUMR Philadelphia has appointed Fernando A. Pérez as Program Director.

Pérez most recently led his own consultancy focusing on transformative content for Spanish language brands and personalities. He previously served as Vice President of Content for Univision Radio, Content Director for Univision San Diego and Los Angeles, Operations Manager for Univision San Francisco and SBS Los Angeles, and Program Director of KLOL and KROI Houston, and KLYY and KLVE Los Angeles.

iHeartMedia announced today that Fernando A. Pérez has been named Program Director for Rumba 106.1, # 1 Para Reggaetón Y Variedad En Philadelphia, effective immediately. iHeartMedia Philadelphia has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing six stations comprised of Latin music (Reggaetón, Urban Pop, Bachata, Salsa and more), Hip Hop and R&B, CHR, ALT Rock and Sports Talk formats.

iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company. As Program Director, Pérez will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the station’s music, programming, imaging, and branding. He will report to Derrick Corbett, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartMedia Philadelphia.

“It’s a privilege for us to be able to add a programmer with Fernando’s expertise to our team here in Philly,” said Corbett. “His incredible level of knowledge is exactly what we need to not only help grow Rumba, but to also utilize as a resource within our cluster.”

“Fernando is a programming scientist, a formidable talent coach and carries extensive expertise in very competitive markets,” said PJ Gonzalez, Senior Vice President of Programming for iHeartLatino. “He is someone who welcomes challenges and will definitely go down as one of the best in the business in Philadelphia radio market history.”

Fernando Arath Pérez is a veteran radio executive with over 20 years of experience programming multiple Spanish-language formats for US Hispanic audiences. Pérez believes that success comes from unleashing the power of teamwork in the service of our community.

Before joining iHeartMedia, Pérez helped top audio brands and personalities with transformative content strategies as a consultant. Clients included Univision’s Uforia podcasts, the nationally-syndicated El Show de Piolín, and El Show de Omar & Argelia. As a former vice president of content at Univision, Pérez led programming operations for 20 stations across America In addition, he’s held various roles for companies such as Spanish Broadcasting System and CBS Radio. Pérez is an alum of Harvard Business School through their executive education program.

“I’m thrilled to have the exciting opportunity to join the newly launched Rumba 106.1 and participate in this opportunity from iHeartMedia to serve one of the fastest-growing Hispanic populations in the country,” said Pérez. “I’m honored and grateful to be part of the talented team at iHeartMedia Philadelphia and iHeartLatino.”
