Andrew Colton To Succeed Jimmy Cefalo In Mornings At WIOD

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
November 3, 2022

610 WIOD Miami 940 WINZiHeartMedia News/Talk 610 WIOD Miami has announced that Andrew Colton will take over mornings starting Monday, January 9, 2023 in the slot currently held by Jimmy Cefalo.

Colton has spent the past sixteen years running Colton Legal Media as a litigation media expert. He previously served as News Director and morning host for iHeart’s 100.3 KTLK-FM Minneapolis from 2005 to 2007, spent six years as a national correspondent for ABC News Radio, and worked at multiple local television stations including WFOR-TV Miami.

Cefalo, a former wide receiver for the Miami Dolphins from 1978 to 1984, has anchored “South Florida’s First News” since 2008. He has also served as radio play-by-play voice of the Dolphins since 2005, was Sports Director for WPLG-TV Miami, spent time with both NBC News and Sports in the late 1980s, and hosted the syndicated game show “Trump Card”.

iHeartMedia Miami’s NewsRadio 610 AM- WIOD announced today that Andrew Colton has been named Morning Show Host from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m., effective Monday, January 9, 2023. Colton will succeed long time South Florida morning show legend and Miami Dolphins play-by-play announcer Jimmy Cefalo, who will continue to provide commentary on WIOD.

iHeartMedia Miami has a strong cross-platform presence and includes a number of iconic brands and franchises — both broadcast and digital — encompassing more than seven stations comprised of music, talk and news formats. iHeartMedia has the leading consumer reach and influence across multiple platforms and delivers more live programming than any other media company.

“South Florida First News with Andrew Colton” will cover the biggest news stories of the day, politics and current events, with traffic and weather every ten minutes. Colton will be joined by veteran news anchor Nathalie Rodriguez, William Althoff with more news and sports, Doug Lindsay with traffic and the Weather Channel’s Ray Stagich.

“We are pleased to introduce Andrew Colton as the new host of WIOD’s predominant live and local morning drive information program,” said Shari Gonzalez, iHeartMedia Miami/Fort Lauderdale Market President. “With Andrew’s journalism expertise and deep connections to South Florida, he is a worthy broadcaster to step into this role. Jimmy Cefalo is a true South Florida broadcasting legend. We thank Jimmy for a wonderful 14 years and are thrilled he will remain a commentator on NewsRadio 610, WIOD.”

“Jimmy and Andrew both share a passion for news, information, commonsense, and our South Florida lifestyle,” said Grace Blazer, Vice-President of News and AM Programming Florida Region and iHeartMedia NTS Brand Coordinator. “We are excited and fortunate to have Andrew Colton continue WIOD’s spoken-word tradition and digital expansion.”

Andrew Colton joins iHeartMedia Miami from Colton Legal Media Worldwide where he served as CEO and North America’s premier litigation media expert. He stepped away from broadcasting to help trauma victims better communicate their stories and situations for legal proceedings worldwide. Colton was previously an award-winning national correspondent for ABC News, CBS Newspath, and hosted the nationally syndicated “Wall Street Journal This Morning.”

“South Florida is a hotbed news, information, and influence in the nation and the world.” Andrew Colton continued, “We’ve recently welcomed huge numbers of transplants from the Northeast, Midwest, and other countries who have always relied on radio as a vital information source. WIOD is that source here, and I encourage anyone who wants to know what everyone is talking about to join us weekday mornings from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m.”

“It has been a great pleasure to sit at the helm of South Florida’s First News and touch South Floridians for well over a decade,” Jimmy Cefalo said. “With my current health challenges, this is a good time for me to take-on more regular hours and focus on the Miami Dolphins and my commentary on WIOD. I wish Andrew Colton and our entire WIOD team much continued success.”
