ESPN Radio has lost its affiliate heard at its home base of Bristol CT as iHeartMedia has shifted “97.9 ESPN” WUCS Windsor Locks/Hartford and “ESPN Radio 1300” WAVZ New Haven to Premiere Networks’ Fox Sports Radio.
Now minted as “Fox Sports 97.9” and “Fox Sports 1300“, both stations will run identical lineups featuring the national lineup of 2 Pros & a Cup of Joe from 6-9am, The Dan Patrick Show from 9am-12pm, The Herd with Colin Cowherd from 12-3pm. The locally originating Rob Dibble Show featuring the former Cincinnati Reds pitcher and second generation Hartford broadcaster remains from 3-7pm. Nights and weekends will feature Fox’s national lineup along with University of Connecticut and New York Yankees play-by-play.
WUCS had carried ESPN Radio programming since moving into the Hartford market in January 2012. Fox Sports Radio had been heard in Hartford in overnights on iHeart’s “NewsRadio 1410/100.9” WPOP/W265EB.
iHeartMedia Connecticut announced today the addition of FOX Sports Radio to the lineup at 97-9 FM WUCS, Hartford’s Sports Station, and WAVZ Radio 1300AM, New Haven’s Sports Station, effective immediately.
97-9 FM and 1300AM now feature FOX Sports Radio’s industry-leading lineup of live sports entertainment shows in select weekday timeslots and around the clock on weekends. The following FOX Sports Radio weekday programs have joined both station roster: “Two Pros and a Cup of Joe,” “The Dan Patrick Show,” “The Herd with Colin Cowherd,” “The Odd Couple with Chris Broussard & Rob Parker,” “The Jason Smith Show with Mike Harmon” and “The Ben Maller Show.”
“We’re thrilled to now have FOX Sports Radio’s powerful lineup on 97-9 and on 1300AM,” said Ben Darnell, Program Director of FOX Sports 97-9 FM and 1300AM. “This addition, along with ‘The Rob Dibble Show,’ play-by-play and the UConn Sports Network, will continue our position as the broadcast sports leader in Connecticut.”
“The level of talent in our FOX Sports Radio lineup helps elevate the station with some of the most recognizable names in the sports media world. The solid programming also continues to include our local ‘Rob Dibble Show,’ hosted by Major League Baseball and World Series Championship Rob Dibble, and continues to strengthen our UConn brand.” adds Steve Honeycomb, President of iHeartMedia Connecticut.
