Audacy News/Talk 1020 KDKA/100.1 W261AX Pittsburgh has launched an overnight show featuring University of Pittsburgh students.
“KDKA Next Take” will be hosted by Pitt students Margaux Rentzel, Jaime Ely and Ryan Tarabokia as well as producer Dylan Foster. Audacy Pittsburgh Marketing & Promotions Director Amy Mauk will serve as Executive Producer. KDKA notes that the students are all in the classes of Kevin Michael Smith, Pitt’s Director of Undergraduate Studies in Broadcast.
Audacy Pittsburgh VP/Market Manager Michael Spacciapolli told KDKA’s website, “This is a project that I have been developing for a few years and it’s ready to launch. It’s the right time and the right place with the right people. This show will bring a fresh look at local news from the perspective of the next generation, which is so crucial in 2024 and beyond. Our commitment to local news and content never wavers and being able to add significant local content overnight through this partnership and with new perspectives is a win on every level.”
“KDKA Next Take” will air Monday through Friday mornings from 1:00 to 5:00am. Westwood One’s Red Eye Radio, will continue airing on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
I love the idea!! Replacing a show that’s on dozens of signals with something that’s local is great. I’m listening to the first few minutes of the show, and it’s not really compelling yet. The overnight listener is definitely different – and a sh0w about Pittsburgh and the overnight listener would be nice. Rehashing politics and the same old stuff others are covering – well, not the path to success. I heard “the following is prerecorded” -will this show be live ever? Having said that- it’s just beginning. The idea is wonderful. Knowing what the listener likes-crucial. These people aren’t radio veterans, that’s evident. KDKA deserves more than a 4 share – and can definitely be more relatable than it is now. Not sure what else the station has to offer- something sorely lacking from the first 30 minutes of the show. The most successful stations use that platform to let me know other reasons to listen the rest of the day.
