100.5 The Twister Debuts In Wichita

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
May 2, 2024

My Country 100.5 The Twister KVWF Wichita Murfin MediaMurfin Media’s “My Country 100.5” KVWF Augusta/Wichita KS relaunched at noon today as “100.5 The Twister“.

Positioning as “Country’s Biggest Hits”, the station is focusing on music from the 1980s through now. The station will feature a pair well-known Wichita Country radio talent. Dan Holiday will serve as Program Director and morning host. Holiday worked at “Kissin’ 102” KZSN from 1992 to 2004 as MD/midday host and later worked at 94.1 KFKF Kansas City. He also operates “The Storm Report” weather service. Carol Hughes, who spent 20 years at 101.3 KFDI including time as APD/MD from 2000 to 2020 will host middays. The Nashville based Becca Walls joins for afternoons. Walls is also part of the syndicated “Broadway & Friends” morning show and has worked on many Country stations and shows including Round Trip Country with Becca, After Midnite, 2nd Shift with Alan Kabel, WKDF Nashville, WUSN Chicago, and Big Machine Radio.

The first five songs on the new Twister were:

  • Garth Brooks – The Thunder Rolls
  • Zac Brown Band – Chicken Fried
  • Wynonna – Tell Me Why
  • Montgomery Gentry – My Town
  • Brooks & Dunn – Brand New Man

KVWF had just a 0.4 share in the February 2024 Nielsen Audio ratings. The flip pushes it away from SummitMedia’s market leading 101.3 KFDI with a 9.1 share and iHeartMedia’s “102.1 The Bull” KZSN in third with a 6.5, and closer to a pair of Classic Country stations: SummitMedia’s 1070 KFTI at a 3.1 share and Steckline Communications’ “99.7 Hank-FM” KGHF at a 1.5.

Original Report 5/2: Programming changes are imminent at Murfin Media’s “My Country 100.5” KVWF Augusta/Wichita KS.

KVWF is currently running jockless with limited imaging, while promoting “Something New” coming on Thursday, May 2 at 12:00pm.

The station launched its current brand last June a mix of current, classic and Red Dirt Country. Following the exit of Program Director Colby Ericson at the end of March, the station dropped all of its Red Dirt music.

Colby was programming this station as well as about 5 others in Kansas with the Red dirt/ mainstream country format that actually I personally loved.
Wonder if they just flipping 100.5 or the whole my country group? As most places the my country was a local station for country music. And as of late the programming he did in Wichita was followed on other signals (or at least was on KQZQ 98.3 Kiowa where I originally fell in love with the format.

I think if given more of a chance for promotion may have had a chance but in Wichita, there are like 3 mainstream pop stations, one that rim shots that has a wide Playlist, and the new classic country stations.

      3 pop? Do you mean 96.3, 93.1 and 105.3?
