A round of layoffs took place today across Cox Media Group’s clusters.
While very little in the way of names have gone public yet, we have been told of cuts across multiple positions including Program Directors, morning hosts, producers, and promotions.
The only name to come public so far is at News/Talk 1340 WGAU/98.7 W254CJ Athens GA where the Oconee Enterprise reports that Tim Bryant has been let go. Bryant served as cluster News Director and host of the station’s “Classic City Today” in mornings from 6-10am as well as a reporter/anchor for sister 750 WSB/95.5 WSBB Atlanta. Prior to joining WGAU, Bryant worked in Augusta and Bainbridge GA and Tallahassee FL.
This story will be updated with more information as it becomes available.
I bet the consultants who write articles, though about how radio is better than it’s ever been, and how more people listen than ever, and how BIA forecast high estimate for advertising this year, aren’t losing their jobs though. until talent recognizes the propaganda factory that radio is and focusing on creating their own brand for sustainable future, this will just keep happening. excuse me while I go find an article from the national Association of broadcasters talking about how necessary radio is in storms, you know, without the news department. I remember when the now beach bums accused me of being a jealous outsider, so I have to ask, what exactly am I jealous of? every single, larger corporate company in radio has shown the value they place on talent, spoiler alert, it’s nothing when it comes to cutting. I’m not as sad and upset as some people, though, radio has to die this death, in order for the new era to begin, at this point the casualties are just necessary for new management, and a forced new way of thinking. Unfortunately, if history taught us anything though, will be at least 15 to 20 years behind the UK in Australia for advancements. hey, look at the bright side, though, some of you no longer have to care about the latest wart on Rhianna‘s forehead, and pretend anyone actually wants to hear about it. where is the NAB in the RAV when people want to make a mockery of the industry? Crickets.
There’s truth here. In the National Association of Broadcasters, remember, there is a critical word left out of the name of this organization. It’s the National Association of Broadcast OWNERS. It’s not the National Association of Broadcast TALENTS. TALENTS need their monthpiece too.
