Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
October 4, 2024

Commonwealth Broadcasting Seven Mountains MediaCommonwealth Broadcasting and Seven Mountains Media have agreed to a station swap in Bowling Green and Glasgow KY.

No terms have been disclosed yet, but the Commonwealth announcement indicates an immediately LMA will be involved.

The Kristen Cantrell led Seven Mountains Media adds Classic Rock “105.3 The Point” WPTQ Glasgow, Hot AC 106.3 WOVO Horse Cave, Sports “ESPN 102.7” 1450 WWKU/W274CD Plum Springs, and Classic Hip Hop “95.9 The Vibe” W240CP Bowling Green/WOVO-HD2 as well as leases of Charles Anderson’s Classic Hits “100.7 Sam” WKLX Brownsville/99.1 WKYY Beaver Dam and and Rock “98.3 The Edge” W252CV/WPTQ-HD2 as it focuses on the Bowling Green area. The company retains Country “Beaver 96.7” WBVR-FM Auburn, CHR 107.1 WUHU Smiths Grove, and Oldies 1340 WBGN/94.5 W233CZ Bowling Green.

Seven Mountains acquired the Bowling Green/Glasgow properties from Forever Communications in September 2023.

Steven Newberry’s Commonwealth Broadcasting will focus their operations into Glasgow as they acquire Classic Country “Big Willie” 94.1 WLYE-FM Glasgow, 98.5 W253BN Glasgow, and 102.3 WLLI Munfordville and AC 1490 WCLU/103.1 W276DO Glasgow from Seven Mountains. Those stations will join their existing holdings of Country 103.7 WHHT Cave City, Sports “104.7 The Score” 1230 WCDS/104.7 W284DH Glasgow, Classic Country “US 95.7” W239BT, current “Edge” simulcast 98.1 W251BT Glasgow and their online news site GlasgowNews1.com.

Commonwealth Broadcasting General Manager Chris Houchens explains the rationale for the deal saying, “Allowing Seven Mountains to super serve and focus on Bowling Green and Warren County, while we do the same for Glasgow and Barren County will be a plus for listeners and advertisers across the region. We are excited to bring together the talents, expertise, and passion of these two groups under one roof in Glasgow. This represents a significant opportunity to elevate the local media experience with local programming and a deeper connection to our community with news and information.”

Cantrell adds, “I’m excited that both markets can now receive the laser focused attention and content that these communities deserve. We are very fortunate that both Seven Mountains Media and Commonwealth Broadcasting share a common vision on how we can server our listeners and deliver results for our local businesses with the power of Radio”

Todd Steenbergen will serve as Operations Manager of the combined Commonwealth Glasgow operation. He comments, “These radio stations have had a long history of serving Barren County all the way back to 1946. We are committed to honoring and continuing that heritage.”
