Todd Nixon Exits As KBEQ PD/Morning Host

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
December 27, 2024

Todd Nixon Q104 KBEQ Kansas CityTodd Nixon has exited as Program Director/morning host of Steel City Media’s Country “Q104” KBEQ-FM Kansas City.

Nixon joined KBEQ in January 2017 as PD/midday host and moved to mornings last January alongside Jenny Matthews. He previously has programmed WYZB Fort Walton Beach, KRMD-FM Shreveport, WCKT Fort Myers, WCTQ Sarasota, WTQR Greensboro, and WNCB Raleigh. He moved into station ownership with the in 2023 with the formation of Sticks Media to acquire 1410 KTNK/103.7 K279CY Lompoc CA, which he then relaunched as Classic Country “Y’all 103.7“. He is in the process of purchasing Classic Hits “93.5 Lake-FM” WLGR Warrensburg/Glens Falls NY.

He wrote on Facebook, “Today, I had to say goodbye to the mighty KBEQ Q104. Budget cuts have impacted us, as they have across much of the industry right now. While it’s a difficult moment, my overwhelming feeling is gratitude. I’m so thankful for the last nine years—the friendships I’ve made, the personal growth I’ve experienced, and the chance to follow my dreams in a place I love. It’s been a journey filled with navigating challenges and celebrating big victories, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
In the past few years, I took a leap and started my own radio company, and now I’m excited to focus more energy on growing those stations for our community and clients. I still deeply believe in the power of radio—it’s magic that connects us in ways nothing else can. I’m actively seeking investors to help take the next steps in this venture and am optimistic about what’s ahead. To my Q104 team—you are the best in the business, and I have no doubt your success will continue. Jenny, thank you for reigniting my love for being on air. Being part of the morning show with you was an absolute blast! Here’s to new chapters and the incredible connections that radio brings. Thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey so far. Let’s keep building something amazing together!”

There’s something very important stated here, which is that having a radio job is no longer sufficient. Obviously it’s good that he’s in a position where he can have another source of income. Also explains the choice to run the automated Bob FM version. It’s really sad that now these cuts are starting to hit the mom and pop owners, it’s hard to have any optimism about radio at that point.
