FCC Actions

The FCC has rejected Smile FM’s Petition For Reconsideration on the operating conditions granted in the CP for 90.1 Allen Park MI.

The new CP which will cover Detroit, was granted with the conditions that the Allen Park facility cannot commence operations until Smile FM surrenders the current authorizations for 89.5 WDTP Huron Township and 89.5 WKMF Carleton MI as the commission notes that Smile FM “effectively sought a major modification of WDTP by applying for a new facility that was mutually exclusive with its existing station. As such, other applicants were precluded from applying for a new, mutually exclusive station in that same geographic area. Grant of the Petition to modify the condition in the manner Licensee suggests would be contrary to the Commission’s established approach and clear guidance to participants in the filing window, and would unjustly award Licensee two facilities where it is entitled to only one.”

When Smile FM applied for the Allen Park facility it noted that the facility was mutually exclusive with WDTP, which the FCC noted made it a major modification of WDTP. The Allen Park facility was originally dismissed by the FCC but granted following an amendment with the FCC recognizing that the grant of WKMF’s CP would require the surrender of both facilities prior to the grant of the license to cover giving Smile FM the choice of which single facility it wished to retain.

90.1 Allen Park was granted to operate as a Class B with 50kW/95m. WDTP is currently licensed as a Class A with 700w/95m and WKMF granted to operate with 1.55kW/61m.

An Order to Pay or to Show Cause has been issued to Morris Broadcasting Company’s Gospel 1300 WIMG Ewing/Trenton NJ for failure to pay delinquent regulatory fees and associated interest, administrative costs, and penalties owed from 2021 to 2024. WIMG owes a combined $18,560.26 in fees owed.

License Cancellations

After being silent for over a year, Relevant Radio’s 90.9 KPKW Susanville CA and KUTE Inc.’s 90.1 KDNM Reserve NM have been deleted.

Calvary Chapel Meridian’s 91.9 Vale OR and Light of Life Community Inc’s 88.5 WEPC Moorefield WV were cancelled unbuilt:

After being tolled for years due to a challenge to its grant, iHeartMedia has surrendered its CP for 107.5 K298DG Modesto CA. The translator was granted in the 2018 AM filing window to rebroadcast Conservative Talk “Power Talk 1360” KFIV Modesto.

Ahead of its CP’s expiration next month, Family Stations has surrendered its CP for 101.1 K266CO El Cajon CA. The translator was to rebroadcast 910 KECR El Cajon/San Diego.

Silent Notifications

As part of its ongoing shutdown of underperforming stations, Cumulus Media has filed Silent STA’s for the following stations that have already gone silent.

Townsquare Media’s continuing shutdowns see 1310 WOBM/96.7 W244EE Asbury Park, which simulcasted AC 92.7 WOBM-FM Toms River into Monmouth County and 1160 WJLK/104.1 W281CK Lakewood Township, which did the same for Hot AC “94.3 The Point” WJLK-FM Asbury Park into Ocean County go silent.
