After shutting down News/Talk “CNY News” 730 WDOS Oneonta NY “due to economic conditions in the market” earlier this month, Townsquare Media returned the format to the market flipping AC “Star 93.9” WKXZ Norwich to a simulcast of 1290 WNBF/92.1 W221EJ Binghamton.
The move restores some form of News/Talk programming to the Oneonta and Norwich areas and one with local programming as WDOS was syndicated 24/7, albeit focusing on a town an hour away. WNBF features a local morning show hosted by Don Morgan and 9am-12pm show with Bob Joseph. Northeast Radio Watch notes that one programming element of WNBF will not be simulcast on WKXZ as it will not carry the AA baseball Binghamton Rumble Ponies.
The sign-off of WDOS followed the shutdowns of former simulcasters 970 WCHN Norwich in February 2023 (whose license was subsequently cancelled) and 1270 WDLA Walton at the end of 2024. In all, Townsquare has shut off seven of the eleven stations it operated out of Oneonta and nearby towns over the past two years. In addition to the three AMs, Townsquare took off CHR 97.5 WTBD-FM Delhi and Classic Rock simulcast “The Eagle” 94.7 WIYN Deposit/100.3 WDHI Delhi at the end of 2023 before selling them to Family Life Radio in May 2024 and took Country “Big Cat 92.1” WDLA-FM Walton silent with its AM at the end of December.
