Binnie Media will flip Country “105.5 The Wolf” WBYA Islesboro/Belfast ME to Soft AC “105.5 The Wave” on Monday, June 30.
As we first indicated when domains were registered back in February, the new brand will match that of sister “99.3 The Wave” WBQQ Kennebunk that launched in January 2024. WBYA covers Maine’s mid-coast area, while a flip from Country would take it out of direct format competition with Blueberry Broadcasting’s “The Bear” trimulcast heard on 103.3 WMCM and move it between their AC “Kiss-FM” 102.5 WQSS and Classic Hits “Big 104” 107.7 WBKA.
Core artists on the new format will include Stevie Wonder, The Carpenters, Lionel Richie, The Bee Gees, and Linda Ronstadt.
Binnie Media EVP/Programming & Operations Heath Cole said, “105.5 The Wave takes pride in introducing a Soft Rock format to the airwaves of Midcoast Maine, addressing a sentiment that resonates with many. We are delighted to offer a station that is tailor-made for the residents and businesses of the Midcoast, catering to the discerning listeners in these remarkable towns.”
