After signing-off AAA 103.1 WRNR-FM Grasonville MD in February 2023 following the Steve Kingston led Empire Broadcasting System’s sale of the station to Brighter Media Group for $1.54 million, Kingston and Kirk Litton’s Cortana Media have relaunched the station on 810 WYRE/93.5 W228ER Annapolis.
While it has begun testing the FM signal, the new “93.5 WRNR” will have its official relaunch on Friday, July 4. Cortana acquired the AM in February 2024 for the assumption of liabilities after adding the former 99.9 W260BM from Hope Christian Church of Marlton in December 2023 for $75,000. The AM has mostly been carrying the WRNR programming since the sale of 103.1 as part of keeping the IP alive along with streaming on WRNR.com.
Kingston told the Capital Gazette, “Our strategy is the same, our format is the same. We’ll use the same criteria, the same musical recipe to consider new songs, and our library will be consistent with what it was in 2023 because the station was successful.” He stated they’ll be hyper-local on the Annapolis area, “We will drill down on Annapolis and Anne Arundel County. It’s our home and we will provide the services and the music that we feel, that we know from our previous experience, and the listeners depend on. Whether it’s traffic on West Street or it’s wave heights on the Chesapeake Bay for boaters, that’s the information we will provide.”
