Spokane Public Radio Realigns Programming Across Its Three Signals

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
August 6, 2025

Spokane Public RadioSpokane Public Radio has realigned its programming on its three signals to give each distinct formats.

91.1 KPBX Spokane will become fully Public News/Talk as “SPR News“. 91.9 KSFC is now Classical “SPR Classical“. 90.3 KPBZ Spokane becomes “SPR Jazz“.

Previously KPBX and KSFC carried a mix of News/Talk and music programming, while KPBZ carried “PRX Remix” programming. Now KPBX will feature News/Talk during the week, with some music programming on weekday evenings. KSFC will have local morning and afternoon hosts in Jim Tevenan and Henry McNulty with a mix of Classical 24 and other national music shows rounding out its schedule. KPBZ will utilize WFMT Jazz Network programming along with SPR’s local shows on Thursdays and Fridays.

The majority of Spokane Public Radio’s stations in other markets will simulcast KPBZ, with the full simulcast list here.

In a FAQ sheet regarding the changes, SPR says, “Research from across the public radio system shows that single-format stations are the most successful. The consistency in programming gives us confidence to invest in more reporting capacity, local arts coverage, and local programs. We can better serve audience needs when we have sustainable, foundational services.”
