The sale of Bonneville’s San Francisco cluster to Connoisseur Media has been filed with the FCC.
Connoisseur will pay $10 million for AC 96.5 KOIT San Francisco, Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX San Jose, CHR “99.7 Now” KMVQ San Francisco, and Adult R&B 102.9 KBLX Berkeley.
To allow the deal to proceed, Connoisseur is seeking a waiver of the Local Radio Ownership Rule to own nine FMs in the San Francisco market. Connoisseur argues that its percentage of radio market revenue in the San Francisco market would increase from 2.2% to 15.3%, but still remain behind both iHeartMedia and Audacy. It also states that none of its current stations are true players in the San Francisco market because two are super-serving the embedded San Jose market, with the other three only portions of the eastern suburbs.
Connoisseur owns Country “Bay Country 94.5” KBAY Gilroy and Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR San Jose in the South Bay as well as KBAY simulcaster 92.1 KKDV Walnut Creek, and AC’s 95.3 KUIC Vacaville and 101.7 KKIQ Livermore in the East Bay.
Original Report 10/7: Connoisseur Media has announced it will acquire Bonneville’s four stations in San Francisco for an undisclosed amount.
Connoisseur will add AC 96.5 KOIT San Francisco, CHR “99.7 Now” KMVQ San Francisco, and Adult R&B 102.9 KBLX Berkeley in the San Francisco market as well as Classic Rock “98.5 K-Fox” KUFX in the San Jose market. The company already owns Country “Bay Country 94.5” KBAY Gilroy and Hot AC “Mix 106.5” KEZR San Jose in the South Bay as well as three stations in the East Bay suburbs: KBAY simulcaster 92.1 KKDV Walnut Creek, and AC’s 95.3 KUIC Vacaville and 101.7 KKIQ Livermore. The deal will give Connoisseur 220 stations in 48 markets upon completion.
“San Francisco is a world-class media market, and these iconic stations are a perfect complement to our growing portfolio,” said Jeff Warshaw, Founder and CEO of Connoisseur Media. “We are excited to greatly expand our service to the Bay Area. Our goal is to have a real presence with local programming, local voices, and being a significant part of the community. That’s what defines us, and that’s what listeners and advertisers deserve.”
The broker on the transaction was Kalil & Co., Inc. Connoisseur Media had legal representation by Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP, while Bonneville International was represented by Strong & Hanni.

If they can grab another cluster in a Top 10 market it could be interesting.
