After over thirteen years programming Waterloo Media Classic Rock 93.7 KLBJ-FM Austin, LA Lloyd has exited the station in a budget cut.
Lloyd has led KLBJ-FM since 2012 and has been co-hosting afternoons with Sawyer Stull, who remains with the station. He began his career at WKZQ Myrtle Beach and worked on-air at WYAV Myrtle Beach, KCAQ Oxnard CA and WROX-FM Norfolk VA before first arriving in Austin as APD/afternoon host at Alternative “101X” KROX when it launched in 1995. He joined iHeartMedia predecessor Capstar in 1998 as a national voicetracker and then programmed Classic Rock “Z102” KPEZ Austin from 2002-04. Lloyd would then program Cox Rock 99.5 KISS San Antonio from 2005-11, while also launching Cox’s short-lived “Austin 360 Radio” for its Austin American-Statesman newspaper prior to joining KLBJ-FM.
He will continue to host his syndicated weekly “Rock 30 Countdown” distributed by Compass Media Networks on over 55 stations. The show will also continue on KLBJ-FM on Saturdays from 9pm-12am.
Lloyd shared on Facebook, “I am on the beach figuratively and literally. Budget cuts. Am I retiring? No! I am not capable of sitting idle. I have to be creative and be involved in music in some capacity. Music has been and always will be life to me. I am no longer doing the 3-6pm shift with Sawyer nor am I the Program Director. I do ask that you continue to support @sawyerstull as I think he is a very talented personality and is capable of carrying on the torch. The on-air staff I have had by my side for the past couple of years has been the best working relationship I’ve ever had. And to Matt Bearden, Bob Fonseca and Eric ‘Chuy’ Aldrete, I get to exit with the number one morning show in Austin. With that, my work there is finished and it’s nice to leave on top.”
He said he will now be focusing on building the digital side of the syndicated show. He added, “I am going to enjoy a little downtime to rest, pray and contemplate my future path. Lloyd is a class act, he’ll be fine. When I saw this headline, I thought back to when radio was starting to use social media, he had just gotten fired from Cox, and he provided a lot of valuable insight about the radio industry, where it was going for a college paper I was writing. I’ll never forget that! That’swhat kind of man he is, though, he cares about the music and he cares about the people.
