WPTQ Mourns The Loss Of Midday Host Chris Bratcher

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
November 18, 2025

Chris Bratcher 105.3 The Goat Point WPTQ Bowling Green GlasgowSeven Mountains Media Classic Rock “105.3 The Goat” WPTQ Glasgow/Bowling Green KY midday host Chris Bratcher passed away on Monday, November 17 at the age of 53.

Bratcher, who previously served as Operations Manager of the station when it was “105.3 The Point” under Newberry Broadcasting ownership, has been on-air in the market for the past three decades.

The company stated:

For decades, Bratcher was more than just a familiar voice on the dial—he was a champion for local talent, a guardian of community identity, and a steadtast advocate tor the power of hometown radio. Most of his storied career was spent on the legendary “Point,” where he created and nurtured one of the region’s most cherished programs, The Local Show with Bratcher. Week after week, he shined a spotlight on musicians, bands, and venues from across the area, helping to cultivate a vibrant local music scene and giving countless artists their first moments of recognition. His dedication to elevating homegrown talent not only enriched the region culturally, but inspired listeners and performers alike.

Bratcher’s humor and charisma were unmistakable. Known for his trademark dry wit and razor-sharp delivery, he had a personality that filled any room—on or off the air. His presence, bold yet welcoming, made listeners feel as though they were spending time with a trusted friend, someone who could make them laugh, think, or simply feel less alone during the workday. His absence has left a tremendous void within the Seven Mountains Media Bowling Green family, one felt deeply by his colleagues, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

What set Bratcher apart was his genuine love for the people on the other side of the
microphone.

Whether on The Point or The Goat, he understood the relationship between host and audience as something personal and meaningful. Listeners looked forward to hearing his voice each day, and he looked forward just as eagerly to hearing theirs—on the phone lines, at remote broadcasts, or during station events where he made everyone feel like part of his extended radio family.

As we mourn this heartbreaking loss, we also celebrate the indelible mark he leaves behind.
Chris Bratcher was more than a broadcaster; he was a storyteller, an advocate, a mentor, a colleague, and a friend. Above all, he was a devoted father, and nothing brought him greater pride than his beloved son, Bobby.

With heavy hearts, we move forward as a radio family committed to honoring Chris’s legacy in the way he would have wanted most: by continuing the work he loved, fostering community through local radio, and carrying forward the spirit, humor, and heart he shared so generously with all of Southern Kentucky.
