Audacy has launched Country “101.1 Big Buck Country” WROQ Anderson/Greenville SC.
Playing a mix of currents and gold from the past 40 years, the stations positions itself right between iHeartMedia’s pair of “Whistle 100.5” WSSL and Classic Country 92.5 WESC.
Operations Manager and Rock “93.3 The Planet” WTPT PD Mark Hendrix will add programming duties for WROQ. As previously reported, former “Classic Rock 101.1” PD/midday host Jay ‘Stoneman’ Stone will move to afternoons at WTPT while retaining his APD duties there.
Hendrix said, “I am excited to give our listeners the best of both worlds, an exciting new home for country fans with 101.1 Big Buck Country, and a stronger, more dynamic rock presence on 93.3 The Planet. We’re expanding our offerings while keeping the personalities and music our audience loves. This reflects our commitment to serving the Upstate with the best entertainment, talent and radio experience possible.”
The new format launched at 3pm today with Luke Combs “Back In The Saddle”, Ella Langley “Choosin’ Texas”, Zac Brown Band “Chicken Fried”, Charlie Daniels Band ft. Brooks & Dunn “Long Haired Country Boy”, and Morgan Wallen “I Got Better”.
WSSL currently ranks second in the Greenville/Spartanburg market with a 6.4 share in the November Nielsen Audio ratings. WESC is fourth with a 5.7 share.
