Keith Shipman’s Horizon Broadcasting Group is entering a second market as the company purchases 1230 KSBN Spokane and enters into an LMA for 107.1 KPKL Deer Park WA.
Shipman, who owns five stations in the Bend OR market, and Greg Obata’s HBG-Spokane II LLC will purchase KSBN from Allen Gottlieb’s KSBN Radio Inc. for $155,000. Obata has served as Market Manager for Horizon’s Bend stations since July 2022. The deal will be paid by $5000 in cash at closing and $150,000 in advertising credits to use over 36 months after closing.
The company has also entered into a three-year LMA to operate KPKL through the end of 2028 along with an option to purchase the station from ‘Bob Anthony’ Fogal’s Spokane Broadcasting Company. The Fogal-led Oldies Preservation Society moved KPKL’s former “Kool 107.1” Oldies format to 89.5 KEWU-FM on November 1, followed by a two month run with Christmas music.
KPKL is currently simulcasting KSBN’s Conservative Talk “Money Talk 1230” programming. Shipman, who has also served as President/CEO of the Washington State Association of Broadcasters since 2016, tells us that both stations will be relaunched in March.
