The call letters of the most famous fictional radio station in history are being made available to license.
Oak City Media, which has operated 101.9 WKRP-LP Raleigh NC since 2015, is opening up the ability for one AM, FM, TV, and LPTV to share the WKRP call letters. Executive Director DP McIntire says. “at the end of this process, one station in each of these categories will receive authorization to use the WKRP call sign along with Oak City Media”. The group will use the proceeds generated through the process to help a number of newer non-profit groups build the “third generation” of LPFM radio stations commenting, “We want to take something reminiscent of radio’s past and
use it to help radio’s future.”
Eligible licensees, who are interested are asked to request an information packet explaining the process, timelines and requirements. Packet requests may be made by directed to McIntire at [email protected].
