Waterloo Media Alternative “101X” KROX-FM Buda/Austin TX has gone local in mornings with the debut of the “Morning X” featuring Trevin Smith and Sawyer Stull.
Smith has been with the company in multiple roles since 2003 including hosting nights on KROX-FM from 2010 to 2020 and mornings on AAA “Austin City Limits Radio” KGSR. Stull most recently was part of the the “Matt & Bob” morning show on Classic Rock 93.7 KLBJ-FM and hosted on “ESPN 102.7” KBPA-HD2.
The duo succeed Premiere Networks’ “The Woody Show” after two years in mornings.
Program Director/midday host Lynn Barstow said, “Everything—research, LAB groups, calls, emails, etc.—told us that Alternative Austin thought we’d given up on local radio when we took a syndicated morning option for two years. That’s not good for the station, the company, or the medium. In an age of contraction, we decided not to. Trev’s well-known in the market with music biz connections; Sawyer brings the same with the burgeoning Austin comedy community. Both are well-liked here and do a great job as pitchmen, so the Sales Department was all-in. They both vibe to me—in different ways—101X’s target audience. I thought they’d get along (they do). Hell, they went to the same Houston area high school (whose catchment zone was next to my own, btw), 15 years apart. They had a fine first morning, considering.”
