Audacy Rock “98 Rock” KRXQ Sacramento has made a pair of staff changes.
Joining the station as Assistant Brand Manager and afternoon host is Marty Whitney. Whitney departed mornings at Local Media San Diego Alternative “91X” XETRA-FM Tijuana last month ending his third full-time stint at the station. Whitney first served as Music Director and night host at the station from 2003 to 2006. He would return to host mornings in October 2019 where he was teamed with Danielle Stuht until her departure in October 2023. After exiting in January 2025, he would return to mornings last June until the start of March. He has also held roles as midday host at iHeartMedia’s “Alt 98.7” KYSR Los Angeles and night host at Rock 105.3 KIOZ San Diego, Imaging Director for KLLC San Francisco, a producer for Apple Music’s Beats 1, and Program Director at Alternative 100.9 KRZQ Reno and morning host at its later resurrection on 104.1.
Whitney commented, “I am overjoyed and honored to contribute to the great winning legacy of 98 Rock in Sacramento with the support of Andy Hawk, Aaron Miller, Ryan Castle and Dave Richards. Born in the Bay and raised in the Sierra, I started as a Sacramento radio listener in the crowd at Metallica’s July 23, 1994, Cal Expo show. Now destiny and luck have brought me to serve my NorCal community as the afternoon voice of the legendary 98 Rock! We’re ready to roll in and ride the lightning.”
Along with the arrival of Whitney, afternoon host Abe Kanan will move to mornings. Kanan joined KRXQ in January 2024 after previously co-hosting mornings at iHeartMedia’s “Rock 95.5” WCHI-FM Chicago from October 2020 until July 2023. Kanan previously spent ten months in mornings at Cumulus Media Rock “X93.9” WNDX Indianapolis in 2019/20 and also hosted weekends/fill-ins at Alternative 101.1 WKQX Chicago before being a victim of the company’s COVID related cuts. He also previously worked at WLUP Chicago, WIIL Kenosha WI, WDYL Richmond, WBGG Miami and hosted a weekly show on SiriusXM’s “Howard 101”.
WKBU New Orleans morning host Ashley O will continue to track middays. Mornings at KRXQ have been vacant since the exit of Paul Marshall in February.
Brand Manager Andy Hawk said, “With his strong history in Northern California and A+ talent, Marty is the perfect fit for 98 Rock. Our listeners are going to love and connect with his infectious, friendly energy and heart for the community. We are amped to have Abe lead our mornings. Combined with Ashley O in middays, and Marty taking over afternoons, this lineup is designed to dominate the dial and carry forward the legacy of this iconic Sacramento brand.”
