With Ocean State Media set to close on its $4.9 million purchase of Sports 103.7 WVEI Westerly/Providence RI from Audacy on Friday, May 1, the Boston Red Sox will move their game broadcasts to a new station.
While no official announcement has been made yet, WJAR-TV reports that iHeartMedia Classic Hits “B101” WWBB will become the Red Sox new home in Providence starting May 1. The move will keep the broadcasts on FM albeit on a lesser signal across the whole state. While 103.7 WVEI-FM is a Class B signal putting a 60 dBu signal over most of Rhode Island, 101.5 WWBB was downgraded to a Class A in 2015 covering Providence and adjacent areas, but not the southern and western parts of the state.
103.7 will become Public News/Talk WPVD-FM on May 1.
