KSL Launches Brightside

Brightside 1160 KSL 102.7 KSL-FM Salt Lake CityBonneville News/Talk 1160 KSL Salt Lake City/102.7 KSL-FM Midvale UT is relaunching its former “Nightside Project” brand as “Brightside”.

“The Nightside Project” aired in evenings on KSL from 2006 to 2017 which was originally a News/Talk product aimed for younger audiences before transitioning to a podcast until 2022. The final hosts of the program, Ethan Millard and Alex Kirry are now returning to KSL to anchor Brightside in a multiplatform form. The show will have a YouTube exclusive hour from 12-1pm followed by airing on KSL from 1-3pm.

After originally serving as political analyst on the show, Millard co-anchored Nightside Project from 2007 to 2017 on-air and then continued with the podcast until its end in 2022. He has been working for a financial advisory firm since. Kirry had been co-hosting afternoons on “KSL Sports Zone” 1280 KZNS/97.5 KZNS-FM. He co-anchored with Millard for their entire run together after originally joining KSL in 2006 as a sportscaster.

Millard said, “Nightside was actually a three-man show. It was you (Alex) and it was me, and it was someone listening in their car. And that’s what the show was about: the three of us hanging out, talking and enjoying ourselves. I’m looking forward to establishing that relationship again – you and me and that one person listening, who might be my mom.”

Kirry followed, “The thing that we’ve always had — and this is what I look forward to again — is connecting with the audience. It’s different now. Obviously, you have all the social media channels and all that stuff. I look forward to that, because our listeners at night were so engaged with us, and I want to figure out how to do that again. I can’t wait to get to know people again.”

KSL Vice President Sheryl Worsley added, “The Nightside Project drew a remarkably loyal audience, including a generation of young listeners who used the show as their entry point into the news and the world around them. Those listeners are adults now, and we know they’re hungry for the kind of smart, engaging, and genuinely fun conversation people have come to expect from Ethan and Alex.”
