Rock To KRAK Open In Anchorage

Lance Ventaby Lance Venta
May 21, 2026

Rock 102.1 KRAK AnchorageOhana Media Group will flip “Classic Hits 102.1” in Anchorage AK to “Rock 102.1” KRAK on Friday at 10:21am.

The flip follows the call letter change from KTMB to KRAK that took place last November. The new station will be led by former 106.5 KWHL Program Director Brad ‘The Beard’ Stennett, who will also host middays.

The format will compete against the aforementioned Connoisseur Media owned KWHL, which had a 4.7 share in the Fall 2025 Nielsen Audio ratings. and iHeartMedia Classic Rock “100.5 The Fox” KBFX, which was second overall with a 7.0 share.

Stennett shared many details in a lengthy Facebook post, writing:

It’s kind of funny how this all came about. It’s a small town and we know how people love to talk. Apparently, I have an agenda and the word bitterness is being thrown around a lot. That’s pretty fantastic honestly. So I figured why not tell the origin story of the evil character that is Rock 102.1.

Sadly, many years ago I got removed from my first radio love. A station that I had given 20+ years of everything that I had. My soul, my personality, my everything. One day I woke up and it was taken from me. As Forrest Gump says, “That’s all I have to say about that.”
What I will say is there was a void in my heart. It really hit when Ozzy died and I had nowhere to express it. I wrote and it helped, but that was just a band aid. Part of my personality was gone. Honestly, it was more of a struggle than I care to explain. The ability to entertain. To make people smile. To love what you do. The ability to be myself. Yes, I got another job. And I really enjoy KFAT and the music. I’ll still be on it for a while till I can figure some things out. But that is not my first love. I can’t really be me.

But if I’m being honest, I never really thought doing something like this was going to be an option. I had made jokes and laughed about how weird it would be to compete with something I built and loved so much.

Then one day conversations started to happen behind the scenes. I had heard about the possibility of flipping one of our formats.

So I approached the powers that be and pointed out we did not have a radio station in our cluster that focused primarily on men. Although we do have some great stations, they do not cater to men 25 to 54, which is a missing piece of the pie. And my way back into my true love. Plus it’s an important demo for radio. Yes ladies, I know you love the rock and it loves you as well.

Anyhow, it just so happens that demo is in my professional wheelhouse. So decisions were made. Again, this is well over a year after being fired from the mothership. I hadn’t listened to that radio station much that entire time. It just didn’t feel right. I would tune in to Alice from time to time (miss you and always have a job for you) because I love him and then my friend Kellen was working there for a little while and I’d catch his show from time to time as well.

So the decision was made to fire up a new rock station, but what kind? I needed to see what they were doing. I mean, I was gonna be competing against my baby. So I listened more. But the more I listened, the more it became clear it had become everything we fought against in radio. It was no longer my baby. It was different now. Don’t get me wrong, the changes had begun when I was there, but this was much worse now and no one was left there to push back.
National contests. No local winners. All that text to win crap. Key words. Selling contests to other companies. (Go read their rules sometime 😉) Pounding certain songs down your throat every hour while being forced to play that terrible new stuff as well. Yes, you Sleep Token (and so many others). The direction was gone. The imaging was stale and generic. No texture, no tempo and most importantly no feelings. Nothing was local. Then I heard Creed on it. I cried a little. My baby was officially gone. The people no longer cared about the product. And that’s OK and that’s up to them. That’s not mine anymore.
But I still care about what I do. And the people I do it for. I’m still very good at what I do. And I’ve missed what I do very much. So now, I get to do it again. Honestly, I don’t have a problem with the mothership. You can listen to them. You can enjoy them if that’s your bag. It’s OK. I still know people there. You can play along with their national contests. I wish you luck.

But my station is going to be exactly that. It’s going to be my station. Nobody’s telling me what I have to play. Nobody’s telling me what I have to do. As a matter of fact, they’re pretty much letting me do whatever I think is right because they trust me. Not sure that’s the right call hahaha, but I do have a track record of doing it right and having a great time while doing it. Of giving the market what it wants. I mean, Jesus Christ, they let me name it KRAK Rock. Seriously, my sense of humor and KRAK Rock. Having a bad day? Sprinkle some KRAK on it. So if you have a problem with the station, come to me. Don’t like the music? That’s me too. The imaging offend you? I’m your problem. Too many innuendos and KRAK jokes? Guess who doesn’t care?

But here’s the thing I will promise you. We’re going back to having fun. We’re gonna do some cool shit. We’re not going to play With Arms Wide Open or No Doubt or what other whack shit they decide to play because a chart says it’s good even though our ears say it sucks.
Oh, and you’re hearing it here first. We’re going to send somebody to see **Metallica in Las Vegas at Sphere on Halloween**. Not a national contest. Local qualifiers. 102 of them. Then we’re gonna have a big ass party at The Peanut Farm and that person is going to win the trip to see Metallica in Vegas on Halloween. Not some random bullshit throwaway day. Someone local is winning. It could be you. It could be your brother. But what it won’t be is somebody who doesn’t live in the state of Alaska. What it won’t be is something that sounds like you can win on air, but the reality is it’s no different than a lottery with everyone else in the lower 48.

And if you think that’s where it’s going to stop, you’re wrong. We’ve got some huge promotions on the way. Things that I have never done in my radio career. Prizes bigger than anything I’ve ever given away. Your best way to stay informed is by following these 2 pages. KRAK Rock 102.1 and Gettin’ Weird With The Beard.

The fun starts at 10:21 AM on Friday. And it’s gonna be great. Take us with you this weekend wherever you’re heading for the holidays. No commercials, no DJs, just ass kicking rock from 7 PM Friday night to 10 AM Monday morning. Commercial free, so why not see what we’re all about. You trusted me before, why not do it again.

KRAK may not have the biggest tower or be the oldest station, but we are going to be the best at what we do. Because that’s the only way I know how to do it.

Please go hit the Facebook page with a like. Please share this post and the new KRAK Rock 102.1 page if you want. Help me spread the word. Please preset that dial to 102.1. Let’s get back to rock and roll, having fun and winning cool shit.

I couldn’t be happier to be back.
