After announcing its plans in February to launch a commercial operation on what is now Classical 94.5 WNED-FM Buffalo NY, Buffalo Toronto Public Media has announced the name for its new operation.
BTPM will launch “94.5 The Source” in August with programming including a mix of what says is “conversation, local voices, regional stories, sports, music discovery with BTPM The Bridge simulcast at night, and a mix of returning and new programs.” Further programming and schedule details will be announced ahead of the launch.
The Classical programming on WNED-FM will move to what is now Public News/Talk 88.7 WBFO Buffalo although three NPR programs will remain on the non-commercial license as 88.7 will carry NPR’s Morning Edition weekdays from 7–9am, All Things Considered from 4-6pm, and Wait Wait… Don’t Tell Me! on Saturdays at 10am.
BTPM converted WNED-FM from a non-commercial license to commercial license to pave the way for the changes.
President/CEO Tom Calderone said, “We know people build their daily routines around these programs, so one of the most important things for listeners to know is that Morning Edition and All Things Considered will remain on 88.7. “At the same time, this gives us an opportunity to build something new with The Source — a service focused on conversation, culture, local voices, and discovery that reflects this region and helps position BTPM for the future.”
