Denny Long’s nearly 55 year run at Audacy News/Talk 830 WCCO Minneapolis will come to an end on Saturday, May 30 as he hosts his final Saturday morning show before retiring.
Long has been with WCCO since 1971 originally serving as Music Director before moving into multiple on-air roles including talk show host, commercial production, news anchor and multiple weekend shows for topics including car care, lawn and garden, home improvement, real estate, and health care. Long began his career in 1964 in Webster City IA and later worked in Owatonna MN before returning home to the Twin Cities to work at 950 KRSI from 1967 until joining WCCO in 1971.
Long will retire from WCCO with the second longest tenure at the station behind Sid Hartman’s 65 years. In a profile on WCCORadio.com, he noted, “It’s a little bit overwhelming to think of anything. Plus, we have shows to do. The show must go on. So we have home improvement, and lawn and garden, and dealing with such great people. But one day, if you ever decide to retire, people are going to respond that you never knew. I’m getting response from listeners that I never knew were out there. It is so gratifying and so surprising. I guess, I don’t know what I was going to say. It’s just too overwhelming. Too overwhelming.”
