Thirteen years after 100.9 WZST Westover took over as flagship station for West Virginia University sports play-by-play, The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and Learfield’s Mountaineer Sports Properties announced that the broadcasts will move to WVRC Media stations for the 2026 season.
CHR 101.9 WVAQ Morgantown will become flagship station for West Virginia University football and men’s basketball. News/Talk 1440 WAJR/104.5 W283CR Morgantown will carry football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball and the weekly coaches’ shows.
Other WVRC Media stations will carry WVU broadcasts as well. Country “101.3 The Bear” WBRB Clarksbury and 98.9 WDNE will air football, men’s basketball and weekly coaches shows, while Classic Rock 93.5 WFBY has women’s basketball and baseball. The company’s five stations in Martinsburg/Berkeley Springs will split all the broadcasts, while 1390 WKLP/101.1 WVMD Romney and 1230 WCMD Cumberland MD remain on the network.
WVU VP/Director of Athletics Wren Baker said, “The return of stations from WVRC Media strengthens our radio network, which will be good for our fans throughout the state. Our radio broadcasts are some of the best in sports, and we look forward to our renewed partnership with WVRC Media, and the amplification of our broadcasts on the WVRC stations.”
Mountaineer Sports Properties General Manager Evan Hawkins followed, “Our goal on the Mountaineer Sports Network is always to provide the highest quality broadcasts for our passionate WVU fanbase. We’re proud to announce our return to WVRC Media and look forward to working together to bring Mountaineer football, basketball and baseball to life for listeners all across the state.”
