Anaheim Broadcasting is flipping Active Rock 96.7 KCAL-FM Redlands/Riverside CA to a jockless Classic Rock presentation on Saturday, August 1.
Promoted as “All Music, All the Time” the station says it “gives Inland Empire listeners a music-first on-air sound built around the songs that defined classic rock, which strengthens the company’s ability to serve the region’s influential adult audience across two distinct radio brands. KCAL’s classic rock format complements sister station 99.9 KOLA-FM’s Classic Hits programming, giving local businesses two clear opportunities to connect with established, active and highly desirable consumers throughout the Inland Empire”.
Anaheim Broadcasting Chief Operating Officer Kelly Sanders said, “KCAL has a longstanding history in the Inland Empire, and this next chapter builds on the station’s strong rock heritage. We rebuilt KCAL around the music our listeners grew up on – the songs and the artists that made classic rock – and we built it right here at home. KCAL will deliver a focused, consistent listening experience with broader appeal for both our audience and advertising partners.”
KCAL-FM rose 2.0 to 2.9 in the June 2026 Nielsen Audio ratings. The new format will more closely compete with Meruelo Media’s 95.5 KLOS Los Angeles in the market. With the change, he entire airstaff of the station including morning host Patrick Tish, midday host Nikki Preston, afternoon host Daryl Norsell, and evening host John DeSantis have exited. DeSantis shared, “Well, it’s finally our turn. This morning the ownership of KCAL released the entire air staff. Yes, all of us. They will be moving to an automated, human-less format. To say this is shocking is an understatement. I have a lot to process, and will be saying more shortly. But for right now, I just want to thank all of you for letting me be part of the KCAL family. It has been a radio dream come true. You will always rock.”
