The century long history of the license of 560 KZAC San Francisco has come to an end as Cumulus Media surrendered the station back to the FCC.

Originally launched as 1390 KTAB Oakland in 1925, the station would bounce around to different frequencies before settling onto 560 in 1929. The call letters would change to KSFO in 1935 and remain as such until 2024 when Cumulus moved the station’s intellectual property to what was 810 KGO. After being acquired by Gene Autry’s Golden West Broadcasters in 1956, the station would adopt an MOR format that lasted until the early 1980s. Adult Standards and Oldies would follow suit until the station flipped to Talk in 1993. Shortly thereafter, KSFO became co-owned with KGO and moved to Conservative Talk.

That would remain on 560 until the November 2024 move of its programming to 810. The stations would simulcast until when then became KZAC would be taken silent in March 2025. During its period of silence, Cumulus told the FCC that it was in negotiations to sell the station, which did not occur.
