Riverfront Broadcasting has filed its purchase of Connoisseur Media’s four silent stations in Grinnell and Newton IA.
Riverfront will pay just $40,000 for the stations with an LMA that took effect on October 1. The Scarlet & Black reports that three of the stations should resume broadcasting imminently with the exception of 1410 KGRN as that is being moved into a new building.
Original Report 9/9: After closing on their purchase of Connoisseur Media’s Watertown SD cluster, Carolyn and Doyle Becker’s Riverfront Broadcasting will acquire Connoisseur’s silent stations in Grinnell and Newton IA.
The Newton News reports that Riverfront intends to relaunch the former AC 1410 KGRN Grinnell, Country 1280 KCOB/95.9 KCOB-FM Newton, and Hot AC “Energy 106.7” KRTI Grinnell in October after Connoisseur ceased operations in June. General Manager Ron McCarthy said, “We just want to be a local community radio station and serve the people. We want to let people what’s going on in town. These are great broadcast people. They’ll do everything they can to be involved in the community. They’re wonderful people. Yankton, where they’re based out of, is the size of Newton.”
Carolyn Becker said, “So we knew we could get there and back in a day if we had to. For us, it’s all about the communities. Radio stations are part of the community, and it’s connecting businesses, it’s connecting people. That’s what we love so much about it. Grinnell and Newton fit perfectly into what we like as communities.”
Terms of the deal were not yet disclosed.
