In addition to the addition of KKDA Dallas afternoon host Hollyhood Bay Bay to afternoons at Hip Hop “97.9 The Box” KBXX Houston, Radio One has announced a series of programming appointments at its stations in Dallas and Houston.
One month after moving from the role of Program Director of KBXX and Adult R&B “Majic 102.1” KMJQ Houston to Operations Manager for Radio One Dallas, Yonni Rude has been promoted to Operations Manager for both markets. Rude will oversee operations and programming strategy across both markets, working with local teams to develop talent and create content that reflects the culture of each community. Rude joined Radio One Houston in 2023 and previously has held roles as Executive Producer of The Morning Hustle, and programming roles for the company in Richmond, Detroit, and Cleveland along with other companies in Charleston SC and Fayetteville NC.
Succeeding Rude as Program Director of KMJQ is APD/afternoon host Benjamin ‘Madd Hatta’ Thompson. He joined KMJQ in February 2024 after a previous stint at KBXX from 2001 to 2020 and APD/MD/night host at KMJQ from 1993 to 2001. In between he was Operations Manager and Content Director for Texas State University’s 90.9 KTSU Houston.
“105.7 R&B” KRNB Dallas APD/MD midday host India ‘Queen Indy Bee’ Brewton will add those duties for KMJQ as well. Brewton has been with the company since 2015 and served as Program Director of now-defunct Adult R&B “Majic 94.5” KZMJ Dallas until its sale this summer.
Over at KBXX, APD/MD/morning host DJ J-Que rises to Program Director. J-Que has been with KBXX since 2004 as part of the station’s morning and afternoon shows and serving as a mixer during his tenure.
“97.9 The Beat” KBFB Dallas Program Director Theodore ‘Big Bink’ Turner moves to APD of KBFB and KBXX. Turner had programmed KBFB since April 2021. He originally worked there from 2000 to 2011 with time as Assistant Program Director, Music Director, Mixshow Coordinator, and midday host before serving as Operations Manager for the company’s clusters in Columbus and Indianapolis. He returned to Dallas in 2020 to serve as a producer for the Rickey Smiley Morning Show.
Regional Vice President Doug Abernethy said, “Everything is bigger in Texas, and that includes our vision, our talent, and the way we think about radio!. These changes reflect our commitment to delivering fresh, relevant, and engaging content that speaks to the unique spirit of the communities we serve while continuing to push our brands forward.”
