While former sister station “Hot 97” WQHT New York has been getting much of the attention recently, drama appears to be building at Meruelo Media’s “Power 106” KPWR Los Angeles as morning co-host Rosecrans Vic has exited the station amidst other cuts at the cluster.
Victor Ulloa launched the Rosecrans Ave. Hip Hop blog in 2014, which would lead to he, Letty Peniche, and DoKnow starting the Brown Bag Podcast in 2021. Vic and DoKnow would join Power 106 in February 2023 to accompany incumbent morning host Peniche although DoKnow would be let go shortly thereafter. The show will continue to feature Peniche, Cristian ‘Concrete’ Gutierrez, producer Angie Fernandez, and DJ Greg C.
Vic wrote, “I am no longer on Brown Bag Mornings. A show I co-created, is choosing to go on without me. On Friday I was informed that I would be taken off air. To be honest, I wasn’t blindsided, I had slowly been pushed out for months, if not longer. This wasn’t due to a lack of performance, professionalism, skill or talent. However, segments, assignments and opportunities were being taken from me constantly with no explanation. This continued until the job itself was taken from me. I told management I felt like I was slowly being pushed out. They assured me that wasn’t happening. My gut told me different and I was ultimately and unfortunately correct.”
We’re told that other names were cut from KPWR and 93.5 KDAY last week, but none have gone public yet.
