Update 2/13: CJGV will debut its new permanent identity as Adult CHR “99.1 Fresh-FM” at 7am on Tuesday.
Update 1/1/12: After Stunting with Christmas Music for the month of December, 99.1 CJGV shifted to Hot AC as “99.1 FM” at midnight. The station is teasing its permanent name and format will debut on February 14.
The graphics on the station’s splash page as well as its Twitter feed keep pointing to the word “Fresh“. The 99.1 font in the Twitter logo is identical to the logo for sister “103.1 Fresh-FM” CFHK London, ON. Additionally, registrations for 991FreshFM.com and 963FreshFM.com (which appears destined for Corus’ Classic Rock “FM 96” CFMK Kingston, ON) were made this week.
Original Report 11/30: The CRTC has approved Corus’ application for Smooth Jazz “Groove-FM 99.1” CJGV Winnipeg to change formats.
The Corus application described the new format as “Mix Adult Contemporary format which will feature a wide variety of today’s pop and rock hits, mixed with songs from the 80s and 90s”, which would place the station in more direct competition with Rogers AC “102.3 Clear-FM” CKY-FM.
With the application approved, 99.1 will shift to Christmas music for the month of December leading into the debut of the new format at the beginning of next year. CJGV will be the third Christmas station in Winnipeg, joining CKY-FM and Evanov’s 100.7 CFJL, which is stunting with Christmas as part of its segue from Classic Rock to Soft AC/Standards.
